[Kitsch]
When people see wild plants making way through the cracks of the city such as between asphalt and curbs and
underneath park benches, they feel strong vitality rather than the beauty of nature.
Smartwatches that represent urban lifestyles of the modern society and nature’s persistent vitality adapted to the urban environment.
A kitschy sensibility of nature is embedded to urban lifestyles through the coexistence of smartwatches and nature.
 
[Analog]

The outcomes were thoroughly ‘digital’-based graphic designs, but the designing process was more ‘analog’ than anything else.
Instead of searching for an image of moss from Google, I ran to the reservoir where I first got inspired of the design and
carefully plucked the beautifully-bloomed moss from underneath the bench.
I put the moss on the basic format of the strap already printed out on a scale of one-to-one and cut the moss lengthwise
with my hands so that it wouldn’t go beyond the strap.
I hoped that this fun but inconvenient process that no one really noticed, would be reflected in the design process too.
 
[Extendability]
Thanks to the universality of the subject and design materials, Moss, the first line-up of the City Invaders Series was
extended and designed to various series such as Ivy, Dandelion, Clover, Foxtail, Reed and Mugwort etc.
As the fun creatives made by the contents creator themselves are generating more ripple effects these days than the material
and ‘efficient’ advertising and marketing of companies, I expect that many more parodies that seem shoddy and lame
but make people burst into laughter, will flood.

아스팔트와 경계석 사이, 공원 벤치 아래 등 도시의 틈바구니를 비집고 올라오는 야생 식물들을 보면 사람들은 자연의 아름다움보다는 강한 생명력을 느끼게 되죠.
현대사회의 도시적 삶을 대변하는 스마트 워치와 도시환경에 나름대로 적응을 마친 자연의 끈질긴 생명력.
이 둘의 공존을 통해 도시적 삶에 자연의 키치한 감성을 담았습니다.
 
[아날로그]
결과물은 철저하게 ‘디지털’ 방식에 가까운 Graphic Design으로 제출했지만 디자인 과정은 그 누구보다도 ‘아날로그적인’ 방식으로 진행했습니다.
구글에서 이끼 이미지를 검색하는 대신 처음 이 디자인의 영감을 얻었던 저수지로 뛰어가서 벤치 아래에 곱게 피어난 이끼를 조심스럽게 뜯어왔어요.
뜯어온 이끼를 1:1 스케일로 출력해놓은 스트랩 기본 양식에 올려놓고 스트랩을 넘어가지 않도록 손으로 뜯어 길쭉하게 재단했죠.
디자인 과정에서도 이런 (번거롭고 아무도 눈치채지 못할) 유쾌한 절차가 고스란히 담겼으면 했거든요.
 
[확장성]
주제 및 디자인 소재의 보편성 덕분에 City Invaders Series의 첫번째 라인업 Moss를 시작으로
Ivy, Dandelion, Clover, Foxtail, Reed, Mugwort 등 유쾌한 도시 침략자들이 다양한 시리즈로 확장되어 디자인될 수 있습니다.
기업들의 굵직하고 ‘효율적인’ 홍보마케팅보다 소비자이자 콘텐츠 크리에이터인 자신들이 직접 만들어낸 유쾌한 창작물들이
더 많은 파급효과를 불러 일으키고 있는 현시점에서 조악하고 어설프지만 다같이 호탕한 웃음을 지을 수 있게 만드는 많은 패러디들이 쏟아져 나오길 기대해봅니다.
